Tech Topic Connection-IT Career
In the previous posts, I have covered and discussed
various aspects of the computer technology and information technology. As it
has been becoming more popular and common to discuss about the career choices
within IT field, there are many people, including myself, who have been diving
into IT field from different types of job fields. Thus, when it comes to the
fundamental knowledge on information technology, it is related to a lot more
people than it used to before. Obtaining and maintaining, even upgrading the
fundamental knowledge of information
technology is important to have for those who are trying to change their career
into IT, but also those who are already in the field, because the technology is
ever-changing and affecting everyone’s life at work, and personal daily tasks.
For example, in financial services industry
where I am in, the development and
functions of computers has been a huge factor for improvement of the quality of
service and customer's experience. Back in the days, there was a time where the
bank tellers did have to calculate the cash by their hand, and have to manually
receive and record on the checks and everytihng. There was a no way of
transferring the funds electronically and it was mostly check or cash, where a
lof ot transactions can have some risk of loss of times, physically. As the
computer has been developing, nowadays, there is not a single day that the
banking is done involved with technology. One can check their bank account
balance, transfer funds between their accounts, set up an external accounts
with even other banks, set up bill pay, wire transfer not only domestic but
even internationally. This all became possible these days is more convenient.
Even though this is just a part of one job
field, computer and information technology is greatly impacting a lot of parts
of the industry. IT field, thus, has been increasing it’s own opportunities
throughout the world. Then, what are out there?
As computer has different components that can
be discussed deeper, there are different routes of careers depending on them
according to Coursera’s article. One of the most popular, commonly though
career path is software engineer , developers. Software developers , develops
and creates applications and systems that are used through computers (and
mobile devices like cell phone or tablets). They use computer language like
Java, C++, Python, etc., to build and develop the programs and applications. There is a path network and system
administration, and network/system administrators work on maintaining, configuring
the organization’s(employees’ and also the company’s) computer or network. They
can also work for making sure the security of the network of the organization
is in the right place. Also there is a path for database management. Database
management is about managing and ensuring the performance of the database in
computer. There are career paths in Cybersecurity too. Cybersecurity field is becoming
more and more important these days as there are increasing number of hacking,
ransomware, cyberattacks in various ways while information technology is evolving.
Also there are IT or Desk technician career paths, which is about maintaining
and repairing issues with the computer technical or IT . There is also, Data
Analyst path, a data analyst examines and interprets data to help organizations
make informed decisions.
While this might seem just a long list of the
jobs you can go into within IT fields, one needs to remember that just jumping
into IT, just because they say it’s better paying job can be a misled
motivation. Being in IT field requires more of understanding of computer knowledge
but also requires a lot of emotional intelligence to be successful, according
to Ludovino, E.M(2017).
