Network Security
We use computer systems everyday, and whether we intentionally go into websites to
browse or go on social medias or not, without us knowing, many apps and devices like TVs,
tablets, mobiel phones exchange information. As a lot of data can be exchanged online and can
also be exposed, and as there are always security holes that come up, one needs to always make
sure the os is up to date. The computer systems can be vulnerable to hacking or robbery(with
leaked location information), and more so.
There are a lot of security threats of computer systems, for instances, viruses and malware, data
breaches, internet scams and spams.
For each threat, malware’s symptom would be showing slow system performance as
stealing information is happening and even rendering the system unusable. Phishing can lead to
unathorized transactions , usually wire transfers and P2P transfers (That are hard to recover),
identity theft(also that lead to financial damage), it often relies on social engineering to
manipulate users to give them out their confidential personal information. According to Kyi,
Stobert(2022), “The attacker has to decide how they want to carry out their attack. It may be a
physical social engineering attack (e.g., baiting targets with USB keys), or they may reach their
victims remotely. Email is very popular , but attacks may also be conducted using
SMS, social media, websites, QR codes, advertisements, and popups.”
To protect one’s computer systems from these kinds of breaches, one needs to make sure
to have the operating system uptodate, so that the security holes are all blocked up. Also one
needs to make sure to update their passwords every now and the, so that the log in information is
protected and not predicted. For preventing the damage from phishing, Desolda, G., Ferro, L. S.,
Marrella, A., Catarci, T., & Costabile, M. F(2022) said in their article, that the training system
can help lowering the percentage of the victim rate.
